Summary of Confidentiality Policy

For Adults Who Are Participants in Pacific Community Resources Services

Adults, Children, youth and families who are consumers of Pacific Community Resources services have the right to have information about them kept private (held in confidence).  You have the right to read any reports or documents we write about you, and to know in advance who (if anyone) will be receiving reports about you.  You have the right to request changes to any reports about you, or have your comments or disagreement (if applicable) noted in writing.  Reports about you or your family will not be shared with any agencies or individuals other than the funding Ministry, without your prior written consent. 

If you or anyone else shares information that a child is unsafe, we must, by law, report this to the Ministry for Children and Families.  If you or anyone else shares information that a person has, or is about to commit a serious crime, we have a civil responsibility to report this to the police.  Under exceptional circumstances, any verbal or written information could be utilized in an investigation or subpoenaed as evidence in court.

If any of this is unclear, or if you have any special questions, please ask your Pacific Community Resources Worker.

For Children and Youth Who Are Participants in Pacific Community Resources Services

Children, youth and families who are consumers of Pacific Community Resources services have the right to have information about them kept private (held in confidence).  At the same time, secrets will normally not be kept from other professionals, e.g., counsellors, social workers, foster parents, etc., known to have a professional interest in your well-being.  This means that information will be shared to the extent that this information sharing is relevant to your well-being.

If you are a child who is 12 years old or younger, or a youth in a Pacific Community Resources Society school program, information concerning your well-being may be shared with your parents.

You have the right to read any reports or documents we write about you, and to know in advance who (if anyone) will be receiving reports about you.  You have the right to request changes to any reports about you, or have your comments or disagreements (if applicable) noted in writing. 

If you or anyone else shares information that a person has, or is about to commit a serious crime, we have a responsibility to report this to the police. 

If you are receiving alcohol or drug counselling services, you have a right to confidential alcohol or drug counselling without your parent(s), guardian, or social worker knowing.

If any of this is unclear, or if you have any special questions, please ask your Pacific Community Resources Worker.

For Consumers of Employment Programs

Consumers of Pacific Community Resources services have the right to have information about them kept private (held in confidence).  Within Pacific Community Resources Society, the only people who will have access to your information are your worker(s) and the staff or supervisors they consult with to do case summaries.

You have the right to read any reports or documents we write about you, and to know in advance who (if anyone) will be receiving reports about you.  You have the right to request changes to any reports about you, or have your comments or disagreement (if applicable) noted in writing.  Reports about you or your family will not be shared with any agencies or individuals other than the funding Ministry, without your prior written consent.

Similarly, we expect that you will respect the confidences of others in your program.  However, there are various situations in which information may be passed on without your consent.  We are obligated to report to your employment assistance worker or training consultant regarding the nature of your involvement with the Program (e.g., looking for work every day, working on getting into school, involvement in the Program, etc.).  We will also inform them of any changes in your employment of residential status.  We are obligated to share any relevant information with the Ministry of Human Resources or Human Resources Development Canada that pertains to our provision of service.

If you or anyone else shares information that a child is unsafe, we must, by law, report this to the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
