Pathways to Education aims to enhance educational success, and supports youth living in the Downtown Eastside and Strathcona communities to graduate from high school and move on to college, university, and employment opportunities.

Program Features

The program is part of the community-driven Our Place Graduation Strategy, a place-based approach to improving the educational success of children and youth living in the inner city.

The program offers 4 free supports:

TUTORING – Youth are offered one-to-one and group academic support through free after-school tutoring at least 4 times per week. Youth can receive assistance in a variety of school subjects such as math, science, English and social studies.

MENTORING – Youth explore, discover, and build upon their interests through fun group activities and mentoring relationships. Youth can take part in a variety of empowering activities to enhance their leadership and skills development.

FINANCIAL SUPPORTS – Youth can receive financial supports such as bus tickets and grocery gift cards by actively participating in the program. Youth also have the opportunity to receive up to $2000 in scholarship support.

ONE-TO-ONE SUPPORT – Youth will be provided with one-to-one individualized support. Pathways staff will work closely with parents, school staff, and other community resources to ensure youth have the support they need to stay in school, achieve personal success, and make plans for future school and job opportunities.
