The Pacific Self Employment Program is specically designed to help people achieve business success. The program works with participants as they create great business plans, enabling them to launch their businesses with confidence.

Program Features

  • And So Much More…

For EI Eligible clients referred through a WorkBC ESC there are also weekly living allowances.

Program Details

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

  • Be unemployed or underemployed
  • Want to start a “new to you” business
  • Have a controlling interest in the business
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Propose a business concept that would be suitable for public funding – the business concept must be legal and not exploiting sex, politics or religion
  • Have completed the Orientation and the Assessment Workshop and plan to work full-time (minimum of 35 hrs/wk) in your business

If you are currently receiving EI or have EI Reachback status, contact your local Work BC center (workbc.ca) to discuss a referral to Pacific Self Employment. If you are not eligible for EI and are interested in starting your own business, this program is available for a fee. Please contact Pacific Self-Employment at 604-580-9792 for further information. Please note you must attend an orientation session to be eligible for the program.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?

Our entrepreneur training team has years of business ownership experience and have assisted hundreds of people to realize their dream of starting and maintaining their own business.

We guide you to business success by offering: Market Research Guidance, Step by Step Business Planning Workshops, One on One and Group Business Coaching, Financial Assistance, and Ongoing Business Workshops .

All Pacific Self Employment Program staff are experienced business advisors and trainers who have been successful business owners and managers. They will offer participants assistance with:

  • Determining if business ownership and timing is right for you
  • Conducting market research to determine the viability of your business idea
  • Developing your comprehensive business plan
  • Income benefits (for up to 48 weeks) to assist you with your personal living expenses while you are establishing your business
  • Business skill training that is respectful, geared to our clients needs, flexible, and relevant; resulting in a smooth transition from being an employee to becoming a successful business owner
  • Financial Records workshops to ensure your understanding of basic bookkeeping and financial record management
  • One on one and group coaching for business planning, marketing, and motivation, as you need it

How To Apply

All applicants must attend a Self Employment Orientation session for guidance on how to complete a Business Concept Proposal and Self Employment Client Application.

For EI eligible clients, a referral is made by a Case Manager from a WorkBC centre to attend an Orientation session.
