DEWY assists youth aged 13 to 18 who are working to overcome substance use issues. The goal of the program is to help youth reduce or abstain from substance use through intensive group counselling and activities.

Program Features

  • Structured individual and group treatment services that will enhance the youth’s motivation toward healthier decision-making including reducing or abstaining from substance use
  • Allows for continuous intake, Core Program is Tuesday to Friday from 1:00pm-5:00pm with periodic “Drop In” weeks; requesting minimum attendance of 6 hours per week.  Program completion is 60 hours of group work/activities.
  • Serves youth in the Fraser Health region; our programs are accessible via transit

Youth who are:

  • Aged between 13 to 18
  • Have been to an alcohol and/or drug service provider and is assessed to need intensive services
  • Currently have stable housing
  • Want to change substance use and/or are worried about relapsing
  • Are able to get to and from the program

Group sessions are flexible to youth needs including gender specific, Aboriginal, and multi-cultural content.

How To Apply

Referrals are accepted from Substance Use Counsellors (Fraser Health direct service and contracted service providers, including Creekside Withdrawal Management), Youth Concurrent Disorders Therapists, and Fraser Health Early Psychosis Intervention program therapists, as well as  the following non-substance use providers (child and youth mental health therapists, social workers, clinical counsellors, and school counsellors) who agree to function as the case manager for the youth.

Once completed referrals have been received by email, they will be forwarded to the Fraser Health Screening Committee for review. Once screened, DEWY staff will contact the youth directly to set up an intake meeting.

Counsellors are available to provide program orientation visits prior to, or during, the referral process.
