Caregivers Support Program

The Caregivers Support Program offers two distinct service components: in-home support, consultation, education, and validation; and in-depth assessments and comprehensive behavioural plans for referred children in care

PROGRAM FEATURES

Our Focus:

• Assisting foster parents by clarifying expectations set out by the Ministry of Children and Family Development

• Educating foster parents about trauma, how it impacts children in care and their families, and assisting them in implementing strategies to work with these issues

• Helping foster parents understand the stages of development from childhood through to adolescence and how they can assist the children/youth in their care to successfully complete the developmental process

• Supporting foster parents in understanding the relationship process with foster children

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Our services are extended to new and experienced caregivers, as well as family members who require support, planning and consultation as they work with particularly challenging children and youth with multiple issues.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN THIS PROGRAM?
100% of foster parents served by this program in 2009 report feeling supported and/or increasing their skills in working with children, youth, birth families and MCFD.

ACCESS

You can access our services in 3 ways:

• A foster parent can request their Resource social worker to make a referral
• A guardian social worker with a child in need of our program may request a referral through their Resource social worker
• A Resource Social Worker can make a direct referral
