Chilliwack Addictions and Prevention Services

CAPS provides effective and coordinated alcohol and drug prevention, intervention, and treatment services for children, youth, and families living in Chilliwack.

PROGRAM FEATURES

Treatment Approach

CAPS has a cognitive-behavioural and bio-psycho social orientation that matches people to programming based on their needs and/or "readiness to change" that is built around the trans-theoretical model of change (Prochaska and Diclementi).  This Model conceptualizes changes as the process of moving from pre-contemplation (I don't have a problem) to contemplation (maybe I have a problem) to action, and then on to maintenance.  A relapse is viewed as a predictable aspect of the change process and can occur at any stage of the change process.
  • Individual and group counselling for adults and youth experiencing or affected by alcohol and drug
  • Secondary prevention and early intervention programming to people who are misusing drugs
  • Prevention activities in schools and in the community
  • Alcohol and drug information resource room
  • Outreach services available
  • Referrals to other programs
