Youth Volunteer Program

The award winning BYRC Youth Volunteer Program provides opportunities that assist youth aged 13-24 in becoming connected to their community and culture.  Through volunteer service youth develop positive self esteems, build positive peer supports, and sense of belonging. Youth are provided with non-cash honorariums to support food, clothing, education, or recreation.

  
 
BYRC Youth perform Volunteer Service within the community and within BYRC itself through conference participation, community tables, and individual volunteer commitments.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

National Aboriginal Day –youth volunteer on the planning committee and on the day of the event with setting up, grounds maintenance, food prep, parking attendants and serving the elders.
Movie Night in the Park – Mount Pleasant Cares Committee– Youth hand out goodie bags, set up of tables, organized and distribute the evening’s door prizes and assist with ground maintenance
BYRC Open House – youth provide tours of BYRC, help organize food and activities, and clean up.
Open House and Homelessness Action Week – youth prepare bagged lunches and distribute them along with blankets and shoes to East Vancouver homeless persons.
BYRC Carwash Fundraising: youth hold 2 car washes during the summer to fund Summer Activities such as the PNE and the waterslides.
BYRC Community Garden: youth have designed, planted and tended our small garden plot with the assistance of Adult Volunteers. Many hours have been given to the care of vegetables and herbs which are used in the BYRC kitchen to supplement snacks, lunches and weekly Indoor Picnics.
BYRC Street Sweeps: youth clean and tidy the streets around BYRC on a weekly basis. This group of youth are  responsible for the planting and care of 2 flower beds adjacent to the bus stop outside of BYRC.
