Broadway Youth Resource Centre

A One Stop Approach to Community Based Resources!

Program Features

Here is what the Broadway Youth Resource Centre has to offer:

Resource Room (drop-in) - Provides a walk-in, youth friendly environment to allow youth to access a range of referral and information services.  This is also an opportunty to check out the other services available at the centre and self identify services that would be helpful.

Youth Advisory Group - All youth that use the centre are encouraged to participate in our on-going volunteer program.  Monthly advisory meetings held at the centre are designed to give youth opportunities to share their ideas, strenghts and visions.  Guest speakers, community members and presenters are among those who attend Youth Advisory meetings.

Youth Addiction Counsellor - Urban Native Youth Association has a youth addiction worker that works out of the Broadway Youth Resource Centre.  The Counsellor offers counselling to individuals under the age of 25 who are affected by thier own, or someone else's substance use.  This counselling service is client-centred, voluntary, confidential, and based upon the harm reduction model.  This service can be reached through 604-709-5720.

Probation Workers - Youth Probation Officers will primarily serve youth in the midtown area.  The Probation Officer is available for youth and young adults, to provide information and consultation on probation, bail, alternative measures, the court process, the Criminal Code of Canada, the Youth Justice Program and related community resources.

Adult Basic Education (ABE) - Provides youth between the ages of 15 to 19 with individualized self-paced instruction in intemediate level ABE, upgrading and G.E.D.

Counselling Clinic - Free community based counselling for youth and their families offered at no charge.  The counsellors are graduating Masters in Counselling Psychology interns from City University.

Aboriginal Youth Program - Provides support and services for Aboriginal youth who access the BYRC.  Programming includes: counselling, speakers, from the Aboriginal Community , sweatlodge ceremonies, teaching sessions by the Elders and healing circles.  Youth Advisory  meetings where many of these special programs are presented.

Health Clinic - A physician and a community health nurse are available to discuss any questions about your health or refer you to someone who can.  The clinic services youth up to 24 years of age.  Drop-in on Monday or Thursday from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm.

L.O.V.E. - Leave Out ViolencE Program works with youth aged 13-18 whose lives have been touched by violence. "The mission of Leave Out ViolencE is to reduce violence in the lives of youth and in our communities by building a team of youth who communicate a message of non-violence."

The following services are delivered at the centre directly by Pacific Community Resources:

Aboriginal Youth Victim Support Program Provides support, information and assistance to Aboriginal youth who are victims of physical and sexual violence by providing them with information, education, referral to counselling services, and guiding them through the legal system.

Youth Housing Registry and Housing Assistance- BYRC maintains up to date information related to vacancies and assistance in securing and keeping accommodations.  This is a city-wide service, and information is provided to other MCFD funded youth centres.

Youth Supported Housing Program - PCRS offers a supported housing program for youth at scattered sites throughout the city.  The focus is on the transition to adult program; however the program has access to a limited number of units for youth between the ages of 19-24. 

Vietnamese Youth Development Program - Individual, group, and family counselling for Vietnamese youth under 24 years of age.  A variety of activities are avialable under the direction of the Vietnamese Youth Worker.

Youth to Adult Transition Program - This program is for youth under the age of 19.  Individual, group and caregiver support services are available upon referral from the designated social worker.  Groups and workshops are also available.

Eagle High - An Alternative School/Day Counselling program for 30 students.  Delivered off site, in partnership with Vancouver School Board, and the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

Who is Eligible?

  • Youth ages 13 to 24 years

Fees For Service

There are no fees for the centre's resources

Access

Referrals are made through the Ministry of Children and Family Development or self.

Referral processes to individual programs may vary.  Please contact us for more information on specific programs offered through the centre.
